Barcelona and the football world are mourning the tragic passing of club doctor Carles Minarro Garcia, who died suddenly on Saturday at the age of 40. His unexpected death, just hours before Barcelona's scheduled La Liga match against Osasuna, led to the game’s postponement.
Minarro, a highly respected figure within the club, was deeply loved by players and staff alike. "There was an overwhelming sense of sadness," said Barcelona president Joan Laporta. "He never said no to anyone. He was a great professional and a great doctor." Minarro leaves behind his wife and two children, Gerard and Anna.
La Liga, in agreement with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has given both clubs five days to propose a new date for the match. Barcelona’s packed schedule, which includes Champions League and Copa del Rey commitments, makes rescheduling challenging. Possible dates include March 26-27 or late May.
Rival clubs, including Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, expressed their condolences. Barcelona midfielder Pedri shared his grief on Instagram, saying, "I still can’t believe it." As the club navigates this difficult time, the football community stands united in honoring Minarro’s memory.
